New Youth Commissioner
Local youth commissioners are a volunteer role held to support our programme and ensure that all of our decisions and activities in Scouting are shaped by young people in partnership with adults. LYCs work in partnership with their District or Area Commissioner to lead Scouting in their local area. In addition to this, the Local Youth Commissioner is responsible for the delivery of the Youth Shaped Scouting Strategy in their local area. They are not there to deliver all youth shaped scouting themselves, as this is a collective responsibility for all of our members, however the LYC should be there to drive Youth Shaped, and guide any volunteer or young person who needs extra support implementing Youth Shaped Scouting.
Youth Commissioner for Glamorgan West
In June 2020, Louisa Shapton was appointed as the Youth Commissioner for Glamorgan West.
Louisa has been in Scouting since 2007. In this time, she has created many memories, learnt new skills and met many people.
“My first Beaver fun day was in Silver Cross and I remember climbing onto the shuttle bus with my sweets and my certificate from the day and being very squished! I think my face paint stayed in tact though!
Anyway, years later, that young Beaver has made her way to Area Youth Commissioner.”
As Area Youth Commissioner Louisa’s is responsible for ensuring every youth member in the Area feels heard, as well as encouraging members to get involved in campaigns such as Skills for Life and Youth shaped. She is there to support and help leaders ensure Scouting locally is youth shaped.
“Young people are at the very heart of Scouting, so who better to involve when developing a programme than them? The young people set the destination, leaders lead the way.”
