Cimla Gets a Facelift

Date: 9th Oct 2020 Author: Scout Websites

Cimla Scout hall is 50 years old, it started off as a green wooden hut, that had improvements made 30 years ago that included adding toilets and a new kitchen thus improving the lives of the leaders and young people at the time.

Fast forward 30 years and we cleared our cellar of old kit and items and we found a crack in the floor that went from one end to the other caused by subsidence.

We have been away from our hall for the past 3 1/2 years, being at Bryncoch and 1st Neath halls. We fought a long hard battle with the insurers, 3 years in total, with the help of one of our parents, who gave his time for free, who happened to be a chartered surveyor, without his help, we wouldn’t be where we are now.

Then lockdown happened.

The work on the hall progressed, trees were felled (the cause), pile driving commenced, inside and outside. Once that was all completed, a COVID Grant came at the right time, you could say that in a strange set of circumstances, it has helped finish the project with new heating, new doors, a container for storage, new floor, new wall, new benches with storage, new cooker and hob, new lighting and reclaiming our land at the rear and fencing it all in so we can use the space for Scouting.

A lot of work has been undertaken by our leaders within the group who have given up a lot of their time to get us where we are now. We are nearly finished with just the decorating, varnishing, cinema system to go in whilst the hall remains empty due to lockdown restrictions.

Whilst the work has taken place, we have a lot of interest in young people joining and potential new users of the hall.

We hope to reopen in the new year. New start, new hall name, the Clive Roberts Hall, the same 14th Neath Scout Group.
